The Keeper is a portrait of Cheryl Ann Bolden, an African-American collector. Cheryl is a keeper of memory ; she collects objects from the African diaspora. She has developed a special relationship with history mediated through objects and the intimate connections we have with them.
Cheryl tells the story : her personal story as well as the collective history of Black people, by allowing people to experience personal objects and documents firsthand, giving life back to all those who were largely forgotten by official history, the history told by the oppressors.
This film was part of Cheryl Ann Bolden’s nomination
to Nouveaux Regards – AWARE Prize 2023
